I used to substitute teach in Grand Rapids Public Schools.

One day while reviewing a book on the history of Grand Rapids I stumbled upon the map below. Documenting the racial pockets of the city in 1927.

    —–, is this your blog? Anyway, you might be interested in a book called “Growing up in Old Lithuanian Town.” I got it for my dad a few years ago at Schuler’s. He grew up in that neighborhood and the book has lots of good photos of GR in the 1920s and 30s. Not sure if it’s still at Schuler’s, but it looks like you can order it here: http://www.historygrandrapids.org/publications.php.
